The Night Of 2

I immediately turned around when I heard footsteps calmly  approaching from behind. I tried to make out the source of the footsteps, but the darkness and their distance masked their identity. Unfazed, I turned away, assuming it was just another participant of our gathering, taking a leisurely stroll just like I did or attempting to leave. As the footsteps drew nearer, steadily coming up right behind me, I turned around once more, only to see you. Tall and strikingly handsome. In that moment, all the annoyance faded into the background, with a brand new sense of anxiety replacing it. I felt a shyness creep in, and I was determined not to let it show. I stood my ground and kept my head high as I watched you get closer with a straight face. You came to a stop directly in front of me, but I immediately took a step back, not wanting you in my personal space. That closeness, it scared me. You broke the silence with a smile and a compliment, "You look very beautiful tonight." I tilt

We left our apartment around 9 pm, and despite the darkness and chilly weather, our bodies warmed with excitement and anticipation as we piled into the taxi. One of our neighbours had the address, so we blindly tagged along. When we arrived, it became obvious that this wasn't the typical "party." Instead, I found myself in a beautifully lit garden, with music gently wafting through the air. We were directed to an area with chairs gathered around a table, accompanied by an assortment of drinks and the tantalizing scent of grilling meat nearby. Initially, I had pictured a lively party filled with carefree swaying and getting lost in a sea of sweating bodies with music almost tearing down my ear drums but it appeared that I was now expected to engage in conversation with fellow "hangout" attendees. This wasn't going according to plan. Since we had come a bit early, we amused ourselves by talking and laughing among our group until more people began to arrive.

There you were, inviting me to a party after you introduced yourself as Martin Luther King Jr. and made all your silly jokes. The call was a very much welcomed and exciting end to an awful week, and I was elated by the fact that somehow you found me. I never really did ask why and how because, at that point, it didn't matter. The party was set for Friday in the coming week. Oh! how time flies when you're excited and expecting to have a great time but that feeling was quickly replaced with anxiety concerning what I was going to wear for the said party. As a fresher just coming to college from high school, my wardrobe was basically high school fits and ridiculous combos that I didn't initially mind. But this was a grown-up party, and I had to look the part. I needed to urgently get a dress that was going to leave a long-lasting effect in the minds of all party attendees. Luckily, my roommate and friends were also invited to the party, and it was a general consensus that our h

Just the Beginning!

If memory serves me correctly, I left lunch that day with a little more than just hurting cheeks. I also left with multiple butterflies fluttering around my stomach and, quite frankly, a dizzy head. You were truly a sight for sore eyes with an amazing sense of humor. On the trip back with my friends and roommate, I replayed the entire event of the day in my head, gushing over the funny sentences and every other little detail. It was probably one of those nights I slept with a smile plastered all over my face. Interestingly, when I woke up the next day, I realized that I did not know your name, and we, in fact, did not even exchange numbers. It was very frustrating for me as I could not attach a name to the face in my memories and dreams. You were on my mind for days, "the funny cute guy who I met at lunch," but as they say, all good things come to an end. Thoughts of you were eventually eroded by classes, assignments, and papers. I was, after all, a student of English literat
